It was exactly a month ago that our little Luke turned 2 so I figure I needed to find a little bit of time to write! It seems so hard to find extra time these days!
We found a new pediatrician for Luke’s 2 year checkup and we are excited that we all really liked him! We took him to a pediatrician when we first moved to OK but we didn’t like him so we planned to find a new one before Luke’s 2 year appointment and Kurt’s big arrival. The Dr. we chose is very close to our house and he will take care of Kurt at the hospital when he arrives. Luke measured right at 27lbs fully clothed and just barely under of 36in so he is still tall and thin! He got 2 shots at the end of the appointment and he cried but was ok once we held him.
I am amazed at how much Luke talks and can already say! He speaks in short sentences now but I wouldn’t say complete sentences quite yet. He is very good at saying “please” and pretty good about saying “thank you”. His favorite things to say are commands like “play with me” or “color with me” or “help me please”. He has some big words in his vocabulary that he says perfectly clear and surprise me like skateboard, strawberry, and conductor. He will point out noises he hears and often covers his ears. He recognizes different noises and says fire truck (we live close to a station!), plane, helicopter, motorcycle, and different animals. He always tells a barking dog “Bad dog. Sit.”. There are so many more but these are a few of the things that come to mind. He keeps us laughing with all of the things he says!
He loves to play and always wants somebody to play with him but he is also pretty good about playing independently when we need him to. He really enjoys bath time and likes to pretend he is swimming on his tummy in the tub. He also likes to pretend the soap ledge in the tub is a diving board for his toys! He always seems to come up with new games and ideas that make us laugh.
Luke is usually such a good little helper! He likes to help push the cart when we go shopping. He likes to help daddy with projects like installing his new ceiling fan in his room and assembling Kurt’s bedroom furniture. He even likes to help out with chores like unloading the dishwasher and putting away his laundry. We love that he likes to help but we have to be careful with him around tools or breakable dishes.
Luke is a pretty good eater but most things require utensils! He loves to eat fruit but only certain ones and his favorites are apples, peaches, pears, bananas, and melons. He loves almost any meat and will eat chicken, pork, beef, and fish like salmon and tilapia. Some of his other favorite foods are yogurt, cottage cheese, pizza, spaghetti, crackers, and tacos. He eats a good variety of food but he doesn’t really like to feed himself or touch food with his hands. For some reason, he loves to play in the dirt but he doesn’t like to get his hands dirty with food. I guess it’s not a big deal but I know most kids will pick up pizza or hold a peeled banana and Luke will only eat them if they are cut up and he has a fork! Such a silly little guy!
We love Luke so much and can’t believe he is already 2! I know he is going to be a good big brother : )
